It is horrific to see the ever-increasing rate of accidents in the Central Region. Statistical data of the Eritrean Police Traffic indicate that between the years 2000-2004, there were 246 deaths and more than 3,721 serious and light injuries.

Drivers, the primary responsible people in causing accidents, are obliged to abide by traffic rules and regulations. Some of the main faults committed by drivers in the last five years are as follows:
• Driving out side the main road (911 cases)
• Driving under the influence of alcohol (674 cases)
• Driving beyond the limited speed (502 cases)
• Failure to give priority (1443 cases)
• Negligence (438 cases)
